Hi, I am trying to help a friend and family member find a way to lower his bankruptcy payment. He was self employed and suddenly forced to quit working due to his health 4-5 years ago. This resulted in owing self employment and other taxes and bills that he could not pay. He sold and paid everything he could, but finally had to file chapter 13 bankruptcy in order to keep his home. This was 12/2008.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO OR WHO TO CONTACT IN ORDER TO GET A BANKRUPTCY PAYMENT REDUCED SO IT WILL NOT BECOME DEFAULT. IT IS CURRENT. IT IS A VIRGINIA CHAPTER 13. IT IS IN THE 3RD YEAR. MOST OF THE DEBT IS TO THE IRS.

He receives $789.00 a month from social security and nothing else, but he does get medicaid so he has health coverage and he gets $92.00 a month in food stamps(They do not consider that a bankruptcy payment takes away money that could be used for food). BUT - THE PAYMENT FOR THE BANKRUPTCY IS $584.00. $789.00 -584.00 = $204.00
When he filed for bankruptcy he had about $900.00 more money a month coming in. A problem with the company that was paying him happened early in 2010 and this money was put on hold until a court ruled on it. Any way, it is still being delayed.
His bankruptcy payments are still current. I am helping him as much as I can and I wish I knew someone else that would but I do not. He has really helped me and my family in the past.
I called the bankruptcy court about lowering his payments and left a message. His bankuptcy lawyer called him back and said NEVER to call the bankruptcy court again.  He also said that he reviewed his case and that his payments could not be lowered even though his income was not the amount that it was.  This does not make sense to me.  How can you keep paying something you don't have.  If he defaults on the payment, the IRS can take his home and he only owes about $10,000.00 on it.  I read something about forgiveness of IRS debt, but the lawyer said that would not apply since he was already in bankruptcy. (Unless I misunderstood)HELP
He does not have money for any thing. Family, friends, food banks, and help with utilities ($25+ at a time) has been keeping him going. He is from a lower middle class background and when he was working, although he was self employed, he worked alone as a tradesman - long hours, not enough money.
He is the same age I am - 67, a good man, doesn't drink, helps others, but cannot work because he has just recovered from another major surgery.
IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ANY ADVISE OR HELP IN ANY WAY IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I am a 62 year old female whose sole source of income in my SSI disability check. I live in a mobile home (which I own) that is literally falling apart. I have no functioning kitchen stove or sink, my hot water heater is broken as is my air conditioner and there are holes in my walls large enough for a small cat to pass through, Also the ceiling in my shower has basically fallen down and my bathroom floor has a hugh hole in bathroom floor that I have covered with a piece of wood. I need some sort of help to at least make minimal repairs. I can't afford to move & I really don't want to. I am not as young as I might like to be but more importantly, I have several pets that are my main reason for living.  They love me and I love them and will go to almost any lenghs to protect them and keep them healthy & happy. Can anyone help?

My name is Chase, I live in Melbourne Florida. I am trying to take care of my elderly parents who are experiencing severe health problems. I lost my job in July (my employer is refusing to pay unemployment) and my car was just repossessed. I have had to turn to food stamps just to eat. My brothers and sisters are all older than me and won't help because they have families of their own. My mom was a severe alcoholic when I was little and I ended up in Foster Care. I returned home when she was diagnosed with COPD,Colon Cancer and Congestive Heart Failure. I have been trying my best to take care of her and my dad for the past 5 years in place of advancing my own life. I am trying to figure out how to make my situation better; and have decided to go back to school. I am a college student who has 2 children, a disabled husband and an elderly mom that I have to take care of. We just found out that if we do not have $1400 in two weeks that we are out on our butts with nowhere to go. I will have the money in mid November but our landlord will not work with that. I have called all of the local agencies I could find on 211 and even the places that they referred me to but nobody has funding right now. I am not worried about my other bills as I can make arrangements on them but I am so stressed out and I don't know what to do about the rent. Please if anyone has anymore suggestions or can help us I would greatly appreciate it.

I have a friend who needs help as soon as possible and cant get help here because all agencies here are out of funds. He owns his mobile home but because of paying other bills he has gotten behind on his lot rent and now if he doesnt get the lot rent he needs soon he is going to be evicted. He is 61 and disabled and has heart problems and when he has worries like this it aggravates his problem and he ends up in the hospital. I dont want to see him lose his home. He doesnt usually ask for help thats why i'm asking for him Please. any and all help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find grants, no-credit - zero/low interest loans, or any financial assistance to help me help with home repairs for my elderly parents. 

I'll try to be brief. 

My parents currently live in a very old, used, single wide moble home in South Carolina.  The floors and ceilings are rottening and the electrical system is poor an consequently, has caused a fire in the past.  My Dad is disabled and his health is deteriorating.  He takes numerous medications daily and many times has to choose between eating, paying their bills and buying is medication.  Since my mom was diagnosed with cancer and stopped working, I have been my parents' primary source of supplemental income. However, I live in Texas, and am financially, constrained with the amount of assistance I can provide.  But, I'm doing the best I can.

 At any rate, In December 2008, while home visiting my parents, we met a kind woman who had a house that she wanted moved off her property.  She agreed to give my Parents the house.  I borrowed the money to have the house moved to their land, beside the mobile home.  I also borrowed money to have the foundation work done on the house, but the contractor essentially stole the money from them and never did the work.  The house has been sitting on rails going on a year, and is starting to fall apart because of instability.  It needs the foundation work and will need substantial repairs once it is set down on its foundation.  Unfortunately, I do not have acceess to any more money, and in trying to help them over the years have put myself in financal distress.

Anyone who can recommend or refer me to any agencies/websites/organizations/private indviduals that may be able to offer assistance to help elderly people with home repairs would be greatly appreciated.
